Autism Assessment.
Ages 4 - 18 Years
This comprehensive assessment is conducted to determine whether characteristics consistent with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) are present.
It includes a structured session with your child (ADOS-2), a detailed developmental parent interview (ADI-R), and the integration of clinical observations with insights from parents, caregivers, and teachers.
The assessment process involves detailed clinical observation of how your child communicates, plays, and interacts with others. Our approach is comprehensive and holistic. Diagnosis is not based on a single appointment or a brief snapshot of your child on one day. Instead, we consider information across multiple sources and contexts to build a well-rounded understanding of your child’s development and everyday functioning.
This integrated process supports a thoughtful, evidence-based diagnostic conclusion and provides a clear picture of your child’s strengths and areas of difference in social communication, interaction, and patterns of behaviour or interests.

Single or dual assessment.
At Blue Door Psychology, Autism assessments may be conducted either as a single-clinician assessment with our Senior Clinical Psychologist, or as a dual-clinician assessment with our Clinical Registrar Psychologist.
Single Assessment with Alex Strauss - Senior Clinical Psychologist
Our Senior Clinical Psychologist conducts the full assessment process and can provide a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder independently.
He takes a careful and considered approach to each assessment and, where a presentation is particularly complex or nuanced, may seek a second clinical opinion as part of best practice to ensure diagnostic clarity.
Dual Assessment with Eran Bar - Clinical Registrar Psychologist
Our Clinical Registrar Psychologist conducts the assessment appointments, provides feedback and results, and prepares the comprehensive diagnostic report.
To support diagnostic and funding requirements where applicable, including NDIS access, Autism diagnoses are reviewed and confirmed by our Senior Clinical Psychologist, who co-signs the final report. This review is included as part of the service and fee, and does not require any additional appointments for families.
More on the ADOS -2
Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule – Second Edition
The ADOS-2 is a structured, standardised assessment administered directly with your child. It involves a series of developmentally appropriate activities, games, and semi-structured conversations designed to create opportunities for social interaction and communication.
During the session, the psychologist makes detailed observations of your child’s social communication, social interaction, play skills, and patterns of behaviour or interests. The ADOS-2 provides a structured snapshot of your child’s current presentation and is considered a gold-standard tool in the assessment of Autism Spectrum Disorder.
More on the ADI-R
Autism Diagnostic Interview – Revised
The ADI-R is a comprehensive, semi-structured interview conducted with parents or primary caregivers. It explores your child’s early development and developmental history in depth, including the onset and progression of any concerns.
The interview systematically examines patterns of social communication, interaction, and behaviour across the lifespan. While the ADOS-2 provides information about your child’s current presentation, the ADI-R offers important historical context, helping the psychologist understand how traits have developed over time and whether they have been consistent across different stages of development.
A note on assessment inclusions.
It is important to us that assessment costs are transparent from the outset. In most cases, all components required for the assessment are included within the quoted cost.
Occasionally, additional areas of concern may become apparent during the assessment process that were not originally identified. In these instances, the psychologist may recommend further testing to ensure a thorough and accurate evaluation. Any additional recommendations, along with associated fees (if applicable), will always be discussed with you beforehand so you can make an informed decision about whether to proceed.
